Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church
Church History

Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church perhaps grew from the High Hill Baptist Church of the Little Pee Dee Association. It may also have some connection with a church in Florence County, South Carolina.
The Adolphus J. Frieson family came to Horry County in the 1920’s. They were instrumental in helping organize the church. In 1923, great men who were led by the Spirit of God founded the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, after Julius. E. Gerald donated property for the purchase of the church. The Deacons of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church purchased the church property on December 3, 1923 for $25.00. The Deacons were Abandon Strickland, A. D. Frieson and J. E. Gerald. Morgan C. Lewis and M. G. Lewis also helped organize the first church.
The present church was rebuilt in 1953. An addition of the Educational Building was added around 1965. Over the course of years, the church was totally remodeled to its present state. Vinyl siding was added to upgrade the church features. An addition was added to the Fellowship Hall. The parking lot was paved to beautify the landscape. A video camera system was added as visual aid for the church ministry.
Over the course of history, the church flourished under the leadership of many great pastors. M. G. Lewis became the first pastor. The first young man to be called into the ministry at Mt. Olive was Cleve Johnson. Lemaroris Goff became the first assistant pastor under the leadership of Rev. Acie Faulk, Sr. Rev. Leamon P. Bellamy followed as second assistant pastor, also under the leadership of Rev. Acie Faulk, Sr. Under the leadership of Rev. L. B. Small, the church moved from part-time to full-time service. The church continued to thrive under the leadership of Pastor, Rev. Thessalonia Graham, Sr. as the growth in the church and community continued to increase.
Throughout history, there were many great spiritual leaders who worked faithfully in the church. The first Deacons were A. D. Frieson and Julius Gerald. The first secretary was M. C. Lewis. The first Financial Secretary was Elizabeth Goff. The first Sunday School Superintendent was Lonnie M. Lewis. The first Missionary Society President was Emma Gerald. Rev. Leamon P. Bellamy started the first Bible Study. Many great servants served faithfully down through the years.
The Holy Spirit has led our forefathers through many generations; and continues to lead us today. We pray our strength in the Lord that we may continue to build the house where God’s presence can be manifested and souls can be won for Christ.
